About “Our Daily Bread”

“Our Daily Bread” is a dance theater piece about food, the stories and folklore of our food traditions and how we will sustain or transform our traditions, some of which are unhealthy and unsustainable. This work was first presented as a work in Progress in the spring of 2009 at CounterPULSE as part of their Winter Artist in Residence program. Deep Waters Dance Theater will present a completed evening length version of this work once again at CounterPULSE in April 2011. The artistic collaborators on this project include Ellen Sebastian Chang, Amara Tabor-Smith, Aimee Suzara, Lauren Elder and Mona Webb.

Over the next 6 months this blog will be dedicated to following the development of this work which includes many potluck food parties, workshops, interviews with food activists and people’s mamas, chefs, farmers, butchers, youth and anybody with a food story to tell. Please feel free to comment, post topics for discussion, ask questions and engage in this blog how ever you would like. It is a journey, it is a sharing, it is breaking bread in cyber space in the hopes that we will come together and break bread for real.

    Hi Amara,

Glad you aren’t eating alone this week. Mission High cooking looks fun.
